Akihiko Sugimura was born to Astraeus and Chisato Tendo in the city of Takatsuki in Japan. Shortly after his birth, Astraeus left the two of them in their home. She asked advice on her best friend, Toshinori Sugimura on what to do with the child. Toshinori agreed to help her in taking care of the infant Akihiko. But soon after, they fell in love and got married; however, things weren't pretty good after that. Hatagami Sugimura, Toshinori's father escaped from prison. He was a serial killer known all over Takatsuki. He went to search for Toshinori to have revenge because he is the one who turned him over to the police for killing Toshinori's mother, Hirono. He considered Toshinori a traitor to him and vowed to himself to kill him too.
One night, Hatagami found where he and Chisato are living. He broke in the front door, armed with a gun he stole from the police with the help of his prison mates. Upon finding out it was his father, Toshinori ordered Chisato to take Akihiko with her and escape before Hatagami finds and kills them while he will stall for time. Chisato shed tears as he hugged him for the last time and escaped through the front door. Upon closing it, Toshinori rushed to the kitchen where his father is running about. They exchanged some words and finally, Hatagami shot him in the head and chest, killing him. Chisato heard the gunshots and cried even more as she ran away with Akihiko in her arms. When she reached the road, she blindly crossed it when truck happened to pass by, at a fast rate. She quickly threw Akihiko into a pile of plastic trash, which saved his life from hitting the pavement. But in turn, Chisato got run over by the truck. The driver stopped the truck and saw Chisato's lifeless and blood-covered body lying on the road. He grew scared. The police may come and get him so he went back to his truck and drove away.
Kazumi Minami, a social worker, happened to pass by. She saw Chisato's dead body gasped. At that moment, she heard crying in the pile of trash in her side. She went for a closer look and saw a baby wrapped in cloth. She assumed that the baby was the woman's child and that she tried abandoning him so she decided to to take Akihiko to the orphanage, where he grew up with the other orphans.
Life in the orphanage wasn't that hard but for a dyslexic person and someone with ADHD, Akihiko's life wasn't that easy. He got picked by the other kids. During his early childhood, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after the caretakers in the orphanage observed his sudden change of moods all the time. One day, a barren couple by the names of Yoshitoki and Mizuho Fujiyoshi passed by the orphanage to adopt a child. They took a liking to Akihiko, even though he has dyslexia, ADHD and bipolar disorder. They signed the papers to affirm their adoption and happily took Akihiko with them to Kobe. There, he was taught in an international school, where he learned how to speak English and everything a student must learn.
When Akihiko was thirteen, he was attacked by a hellhound. He barely escaped it and told it to his parents, but they told him its just his eyes playing on him. These attacks persisted a few times and he was very lucky he escaped all of this, with some minor wounds to add.
When he was 16, Yoshitoki and Mizuho told him they will move to New York, USA to find a better life. Since he was trained in speaking English, he was pretty confident he'll do great in there; however, there was more to New York than those mortal attractions and buildings.
One day, while Akihiko was off school, an empousa attacked him. This time, he wasn't lucky enough. He tried fighting it, but he was too scared and it was too strong. That's when an arrow went through the empousa's chest and killed it, turning it into dust. His mom and dad was off shopping and he was home alone so he didn't know what to do. As if an answer to his question, a satyr came out of the trees and explained things to him. He was then taken to camp where he was claimed by his father, Astraeus.
